We Burn Through
Over the centuries they have tried to scrub us out, this isn’t new - but our pattern will always burn through.
At the start of 2025 as the far to easy roll back on EDI swept cross the US and outward in the west. STEM women like myself, and all diversities being removed from view, scrubbing us out like we didn’t exist, that we were not acceptable, of value. It stirred a lot of complex emotions in me that couldn’t be told in one picture or image, so I told it through the images of four women from my own ancient roots. Perhaps needing to evoke their spirit again. Women in STEM and those that carve their own path of value, bucking the trends of the patriarchal Boss Women or Trad Wife - drive their own path with quiet authority which has an archetype pattern going back eons.
Individual Piece: Boudicca - Approaching Watling. She has had a really rough time, but she will continue to fight while their is breath in her lungs. She will hold the line. Emotions: Betrayal, hurt, anger, grit, stare it down
Individual Piece: Gráinne Ní Mháille Gracey O’Mally Pirate Queen. Emotions: Knowing, wry humour, intelligence, skilfulness, canny, resourceful, more than anyone bargained for. All the things we have always been and will continue to be.
Queen Maeve (Mebd) Emotions: Already tired, but we will stand through the rain and the mud whipping around us. My husband says it looks like Tracy has had a hard shift at Greggs and now it’s raining at the bus stop and her tiara is on fire….I said yep, pretty much the feeling!
